The Cameron Brothers have played music almost all of their lives.
They played professionally together for some 10 years from the mid 70's to the mid 80's in showbands, club bands, dinner dance bands and rock bands.
But their musical origins are steeped in the 60's folk revival.
For many years, as young performers in the 60's, they were members of a very traditional folk song club in Glasgow and, in this family friendly, informal atmosphere, were exposed to a wide variety of the very best performers and authoratitive figures of folk tradition.
Through the auspices of this club they played folk clubs throughout Scotland, performed at foreign embassy cultural evenings, and were part of the Scottish contribution performing at the very first "Festival of India" at the Woodside Halls in Glasgow.
In addition to these culturally enriching musical experiences, throughout the 60's and early 70's, the brothers literally lived the "weekender's tradition" (or at least their version of it!)
Every weekend (or just about) they travelled with friends, around Scotland, exploring the country, hill walking or fishing by day and ceilidhing by night, either round the campfire or in the local hotel (and sometimes both - but always in great company!)
Although they left the folk scene when they turned professional, the Brothers still maintained their links through the many good friends they made during that period, and they continued to play folk music at parties and family gatherings, and indeed very often in the back of the van while touring!
Suffice to say then that folk music is and always has been an integral part of the lives of the Cameron Brothers whether on or off stage.
For
them it's natural, it's where they started - it's their roots.
